MapleStory : Sengoku Era!

Nexon Japan updated the teaser site sometime after 7pm JST today. It seems the big summer update will come in three parts.

Sengoku Part One – The Dawn (暁)

July 11th, 2012

On July 11th, JapanMS will receive a new map. There’s no information on exactly what it is, but it’s apparently big enough to be a stand-alone content, so that makes me very excited about it. Next, there will be a “new system” added to the game. The teaser site calls it “戦国大合戦,” or “The Great Battle of Sengoku!” There’s no real information about what this is exactly. You know for sure that I will be updating this post the instant I get more information.

Update : You can find more information about the first update of the Sengoku Era here : Sengoku Part One – “The Dawn”

Update : Character Card Decks and Part Time Jobs will also be implemented with the first update of Sengoku. On top of that, Maple Road #109 reveals part of what the new area will look like :

Sengoku Part Two – A Blade of Gales (疾風の刃)

July 25th, 2012

The ‘Samurai’ class will be a time-limited class. It will be available between July 25th until sometime in October. The Samurai’s name is “Hayato” and it will be released on July 25th as a stand-alone content update. It seems it will use its own weapon, based on the sprites presented to us on the website.

At the moment, anything further about the class itself is speculation, until Nexon Japan confirms otherwise.

Sengoku Part Three – A Fan of Purple Calamity (紫妖の扇)

August 16th, 2012

The ‘Diviner’ class will be a time-limited class. It will be available between August 16th until sometime in October. The Diviner’s name is “Kanna” and it will be released on August 16th along with the “Ranmaru Expedition.” It seems it will use its own weapon, based on the sprites presented to us on the website.

No information is currently present on what exactly the “Ranmaru Expedition” is. I assume it’s some sort of boss – likely the one presented at the end of the trailer. No confirmation is present at this time. I speculate that the Ranmaru Expedition might have Oda Nobunaga as a boss.

Back Story

Many centuries ago, there was a time of peace.

The Great Diviner of that time, Abe no Seimei, had a premonition that, at some point, an entity would appear, wielding the power of the 6th Sky Demon King, and threaten the entire land of Japan.

Time had passed in the world of Sengoku. Just as predicted, a man by the name of Oda Nobunaga appeared, calling himself the 6th Sky Demon King. With an overwelming military force, the world of Sengoku was seized into hegemony in the blink of an eye. In order to be reborn into the 6th Sky Demon King, Nobunaga went to Honnoji to perform the ritual of the Demon King’s Decendant.

However, Abe no Seimei had a premonition that foretold that 5 skilled people would rise to oppose Nobunaga.

From then on, they would be called the “Children of Five Stars,” and they would be burdened to carry the fate of opposing the threat of Oda Nubunaga over the entire nation of Japan. A mark would be printed somewhere on each their bodies to show proof of their heavenly bodies.

A skilled swordman by the name of “Hayato” and a diviner by the name of “Kanna” joined with the military forces for the sake of preventing the ritual of the Demon King’s Decendant. They were the “Children of Five Stars” who would carry the stars of fate in their bodies and carry out their duty of defeating Oda Nobunaga.

That’s it for now! I will update this post as I get more information. For now, I’m going to go hide while I eat and look for more details!

On one last note : soggy noodles are disgusting.

sweet! so jms will get 5 exclusive classes?? well eventually?? i wish gms would take the initiative and come up with some cool storyline (not having to do with the black mage) with 5 classes of their own. JMS has gotta be one of the coolest versions of maple out there!

  4. July 5, 2012 at 9:29 am

5 classes? I think this will be like the Heroes, 1 for every job (even though it was Fed up by Luminous xD). Cool, so JMS can expect 3 more exclusive jobs :p

I really like what JMS is doing, all GMS is doing is lame alien content that isn’t even drawn well. I <3 JMS

Hayato and Kanna are reskinned Arans and Evans.

If JMS does another three “exclusives” to complete that storyline, they’ll be reskins of the other three heroes.

At least JMS has the good sense to reskin good classes, instead of just kitbashing two adventurers into a single shittier class.

Where did you get that idea from?

Deductive reasoning. 5 skilled men. 5 MAPLE heroes. The first two are a warrior and a mage. One’s a samurai who swings around a large sword (samurai are also known to have used polearms like the naginata) while the miko waves a fan around (like a wand/staff) in order to have her kitsune companion attack. I mean, what, would the elegant shrine maiden attack on her own? Of course not. That would tarnish her purity. And there’s only one other class that uses an animal companion to attack.

If I were to take a guess, the other three skilled men would be an archer (for great redundancy), a taoist and a…well, I’m not well versed in the Japanese depiction of Japanese history, let alone real Japanese history, so I couldn’t even begin to guess what the Luminous counterpart would be. Regardless, there’s something that still bothers me.

If Kanna is one of the skilled men, does that mean she’s really a trap?

The “men” part actually refers to people, not males. It’s probably bad wording on my part.

“That would tarnish her purity.” However, the teaser site disproved the “Shrine Maiden” rumor. She’s actually a diviner/exorcist, as you can see in the blog post. I don’t think she has purity to worry about.

While the sword Hayato wields is huge, I don’t think it’ll be an Aran reskin. Aran skills just don’t fit with a sword. Plus, if the teaser site’s sprites are any indication, Hayato will have character animations Aran doesn’t have. If his weapon isn’t a completely new type, I’m going to assume he either uses a sword and sheath, the sheath going into the secondary weapon slot, or he will use two-handed swords.

Haven’t you seen any ero anime? All Japanese women have purity to worry about! Thar be combat tentacles afoot. Shrine maidens, be they mikos or exorcists (same difference!), are in unfriendly territory when it comes to fantasy settings. One wrong move and SCHLICK, they’re ruined for marriage. Truly, being a fictional Japanese female is suffering.

And if you don’t have anything better than baseless speculation based on misleading graphics, for example gameplay videos or skill tables, or even extraction data for his weapons and obligatory shield slot equip, then I stand by my own wild mass guessing.

Inb4 we’re both wrong because Shamalama. WHAT A TWIST!

Judging a nation based on their sexual content which is only ONE part of said nation’s FULL history and culture is showing a blatant sense of ignorance, which proves you’re an ignorant child.

The Sengoku era actually DID exist. It’s among one of the well known mostly because most of Japanese oriental fantasy culture draws from that era. There’s also the Heian era, the Tokugawa era – there are countless periods of time in Japan where history was more than just katanas, yin yang orbs, and ninja magic.

Also, a miko working WITH a kitsune? You’re not basing that on Touhou, right? Right?

Learn your mythology, pal. A kitsune is a fox demon – it goes by Kumiho in the Korean peninsula, and it can also be a Kyuubi (no Naruto reference intended), but the fact of the matter is that a Miko working with a kitsune is an oxymoron – because a Miko’s job is to banish and destroy demons of any sort – a kitsune being one of those.

I’m not an ignorant child. I’m American. However, I can understand how you would make that mistake. Also, +1 for taking something said in jest as SERIOUS BUSINESS. I’m well aware that IRL it’s Japanese men who have to watch out for their purity, what with them being surrounded by the ticking of biological clocks that go off at the age of 25 as well as men in pink dresses or le gay molestars (the typo is on purpose, deal with it).

Also, you misunderstood what I meant by fantasy setting. I meant MapleStory, not the actual time period from which this content draws influence.

And no, I’m not a touhou fan. Although I did just get done reading a touhou doujin about a female character eating a magic mushroom that shrunk her down to the size of an insect. The insects then proceeded to…well, let’s just say my only experience with Touhou hasn’t involved any official touhou material.

But when it comes to exorcists working with ghosts/demons/other misc creatures, it’s not unheard of in fiction. Ayakashi, Kekkaishi and Inuyasha are a few of examples. When it comes to fiction, the rule of cool trumps all. And a miko riding a demon fox is pretty goddamn cool. GMS even has SPACE COWBOYS, even though frontier cowboys first appeared way back when traveling to the sky was an idea only spoken of by crazy people.

Neuhaus had little competition, since few other confectionary makers could keep up with
the complicated flavors he created. Janet says her customers come from far
and wide, with locals mainly coming in for
maps. Over the years, the popularity of wedding favours has grown significantly among
couples who are today much more creative and discerning in their choice of wedding favours.
