MapleStory Chaos…? NO! Renaissance!

I woke up yet again with my friend messaging me about something JMS did today. Last night, after translating the Cash Shop maintenance patch notes for the English community of JMS, there was nothing else to view, but I guess within the few hours of sleep I had, Nexon Japan released something big!

When I went to the MapleStory Japan homepage, I saw a new announcement and a new campaign page! If you want to view this campaign page yourself, click here.

Calling it the “MapleStory Renaissance” patch, Nexon Japan is releasing their own version of the Chaos Patch. It will be a three-part patch and will include the following :

  • Monster Familiar
  • Spirit Weapons
  • Door to the Future*
  • Skill Updates*

* These are parts of the real MapleStory Chaos patch, but Nexon Japan has broken the chain of patches and are implementing them their own way. I’m looking forward to seeing how much the skill changes affect my Viper. Of course, we still are in lack of Ultimate Adventurer, so whenever they decide to give us the UA update, those of us who will make an Ultimate Adventurer warrior will not be making one as quickly as we had planned. =/

The “Monster Familiar” update is where you will have monsters following you around and attacking for you, similar to a pet, but with attacking abilities. According to the Nexon Japan teaser page, there are items that drop from monsters which you can collect to summon the monster of which the item dropped from. They look similar to Monster Cards, but they have the special ability of summoning a friend to help you in battle!

The Spirit Weapon update is an update that includes a series of weapons for all classes that, when you attack and kill monsters, suck the soul of the monsters and uses it as energy to charge itself. Once it is fully charged, you can unleash its abilities to summon a powerful boss to deal an eye-candy attack. According to the Nexon Japan page, the Spirit Weapons are actually a scroll which you can apply to your weapon to give it the ability to collect monster spirit and unleash a powerful attack. The details (success rate or if it booms upon failure) are currently unknown. More details will come in time!

The Door to the Future update is the update from Chaos which opens up a new door in the Temple of Time that allows you to take a step into the future. The future includes ruined Henesys and Ereb as well as the Empress Cygnus boss! I wonder if Nexon Japan hired Japanese voice actors for the Cygnus boss expedition, but I’m doubtful, since they didn’t hire anyone to do voice acting for the Lion Heart Castle NPCs.

The Skill Updates are a series of skill updates (yay, redundancy!) which include the buffing of Dual Blade, Aran and Evan as well as many other skill updates to all classes. I’m wondering if we’ll receive the Chaos Patch events where Dual Blades get all skill books or mastery books for free for a limited period or if we’ll get the event where if we level 40 times after level 41, we get special equipment. If we get either, I may consider remaking another Dual Blade of my own.

Of course, we can’t have a patch like this without some sort of test server!

Nexon Japan is running an open-to-all test server from July 2nd at 10AM Japan time (GMT+9) until July 6th at 5PM Japan time (GMT+9). All users who have a registered MapleStory ID before July 1st will be eligible for play in the test server.

MapleStory Renaissance goes live on July 13th! I’ll be sure to keep filling everyone in on every detail I can possibly get!

Those Spirit Weapon scrolls better not take a slot or I’ll be infinitely pissed off.

      Nor should they destroy weapons.

If they have a chance to break, I’m not even risking one. I rather risk it on a Crimsonwood staff and use it for the lulz.
