Renaissance Update – 4Gamer Interview With Nexon Japan

In an interview, Nexon Japan reveiled more information about the Renaissance patches, including more Japan-original content. You can either read the original Japanese interview here or what I post below. The interview is very, very long, so I will only be posting a summary of the interview with a translated image.

There will be two updates for “MapleStory Renaissance.” The first part is named “Monster Familiar,” which will entail the Monster Familiar, Spirit Weapon, Door to the Future and Skill Updates that I have already covered in previous blog posts. Part two will be named “Way of the Artisan.” It is to be released mid-summer and will also entail some Japan-Original content. With personal speculation, I would assume there is a third update entailing PvP, since that hasn’t been included yet at all.

Part One – Monster Familiar

  • Monster Familiar
  •

If you obtain the items called “Familiar” that drop from monsters, you can summon that monster and fight along side it!
There are more than 500 varieties of monsters you can become friends with!
・Movement : Like pets, the monsters follow your character from behind!
・Vitality and Summon Duration : The monsters don’t have HP. Instead, “Vitality” determines their summon duration! Their vitality decreases as the monster attacks, but when you don’t have it summoned, its vitality is recovered.
・Rarity and Skill : Rarity is determined by what rank they are, either “Common,” “Special,” “Rare,” or “Legendary.” Depending on the rarity and the variety of the monster, the skills you can use will change!
・Limitation : You cannot summon monsters that are above your own character’s level.

  • Spirit Weapons
  •

The ability to inflict “Spirit Skills” that can be added as a potential ability to weapons has appeared!
You can apply “Spirit Scrolls” to items with potential ability to make them into “Spirit Weapons!”
When you attack monsters, you have the ability to suck out and collect the monster’s spirit and when you collect the “Spirit Balls,” you can use “Spirit Skills!”
With boss monster spirits, you can use a special, powerful skill!

  • Door to the Future
  •

To exterminate the Black Mage, Empress Cygnus believed the power of the World Tree was required.
However, the heroes of the Maple World fell into a the Black Mage’s trap at the World Tree.
Did the founder of the Knights of Cygnus, Empress Cygnus, fall under the control of the Black Mage when she fell into his trap……!?
High level heroes! Save the Maple World and Cygnus!
The “Door to the Future” is a challenge limited to high level players!
Those players who clear these high requirements can participate in the expedition!

    【Restrictions】
Level : Level 170 or higher
    Time Limit : 1 Hour
Player Number : 3 or more, 18 or less Expedition
Number of Times : Once per day

  • Skill Updates
  •

Arans, Evans, and Dual Blades will receive special skill updates, making them far more powerful than before!
Other classes will also receive skill changes, but none quite as huge as the ones taking place for Arans, Evans and Dual Blades.

Part Two – Way of the Artisan

  • Professional System
  •

Like the Chaos Update, Nexon Japan will be releasing the “Professional” system in the second patch of Renaissance. The Professional system includes Mining, Jewel Crafting, Blacksmithing, and other professions. This will open up a lot of new equipment and potions to be made.

  • Farming
  •

Using tools like pickaxes, you can farm herbs, crystals, ores, and the like. Apparently, in JMS, there’s also this thing called “Hunting House” where you can capture and collect monsters and make trade-able items. I am as confused as you are about this.

  • Fishing Renewal
  •

There will be four different maps added to the fishing system to give a sense of variety. There will also be some sort of system implemented to where you can pull on the fishing rod to capture the fish, instead of just sitting there for hours doing nothing.

  • Personality System
  •

The Personality system is the same system implemented in Chaos in other versions of MapleStory. It contains personality traits like charisma, insight, diligence, willpower, etc. and they can be raised by doing a large variety of things like completing quests, farming ores and herbs, and the like.

That’s all for now! We’ll get more details when Nexon Japan releases the next teaser page, which is planned for July 20th. I will be sure to translate the details, just like I did with part one.
